PROBLEM
The National Park Service promotes its “Leave No Trace” principles to encourage environmental stewardship, but these guidelines can feel abstract or unengaging especially for younger audiences. There is a need for a format that clearly communicates proper park practices in a way that is accessible, memorable, and appealing to children and families.
SOLUTION
I created a narrative-driven motion graphic in a playful, kid-friendly illustrative style in order to communicate the National Park Service’s “Leave No Trace” principles. The story follows an adventurer preparing for a trip to a national park, guiding viewers through their table of gear and personal items. Each piece of ephemera introduces a “Leave No Trace” principle, transforming educational content into an engaging, story-based experience that makes the guidelines easy to understand and enjoyable for all ages.
Drawing from vintage travel ephemera, I incorporated textured illustrations, a warm yellow-tinted palette, and the typeface Overpass, inspired by Highway Gothic, to evoke a sense of travel and exploration. The rounded vector illustration style and the bouncy motion design reinforces a friendly and approachable tone suited for younger viewers.
